The Black Book
Published in Paperback by Random House Trade Paperbacks (February, 1974)
Authors: M. A., Comp. Harris and Morris Levitt
Average review score:

A rare American treasure that every American should own.
This book is one of America's greatest treasures!!! It has been a part of my household ever since I was a young girl. No American, black, white, or otherwise should be without this book and the knowledge of its contents. This book is an accurate depiction of how far we as African-Americans have come and, hopefully, an insight as to where we as an American culture are going. This book should never have gone out of print! I recommend that this book be used as a textbook in all elementary school, middle school, high school, and college history courses! America as a whole will never be able to mend the wounds if we do not learn about each other, acknowledge one another, learn to understand one another, and teach each other how to heal all of our wounds and correct the wrongs of the past. Ignorance is not an istinct or a natural trait, it is a parasitic sore that is handed down from generation to generation.

A haunting yet true account of the horrors of Black hatred
This book is an accurate account of the horrors and stereotypes that surrounded Diaspora Africans in America. It is my hope that every African American read this bok, and treasure it as I have.

Fantastic story-telling. I cried at the end.
This is a book for all age readers. I picked it to read a few pages to grad students in my reading methods class as a tradebook that could be used to teach local area (VA/MD/PA) history, realistic way of portraying war, character development, or just a good read. Thank goodness I read it ahead of time--I cried at the ending. Beautifully told with uplifting ending even tho' the main character dies in battle (as he did in real life).

This was a great book.
Through suspense and and comedy this book portrays a realistic character. When you read this book you feel like you are right there. Charley seems just like the hundreds of young men who jumped at the chance to serve their country. Written by Edith Morris Hemingwy, I would recommend this book any day.

A Brush With Death : An Artist in the Death Camps (Suny Series in Modern Jewish Literature and Culture)
Published in Hardcover by State Univ of New York Pr (August, 1999)
Author: Morris Wyszogrod
Average review score:

Sensitivity and Brutality Combine For a Stunning Remembrance
This review is hardly unbiased. The author, Morris Wysogrod, a commerical artist by trade, is my cousin and quite truly, a hero of mine. Whenever I visit my Cousin Morris' apartment, I am greeted as soon as I step off the elevator with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. His smile, unbreaking and his conversation, always scintillating, I am amazed at his sincerity and good nature despite what he has witnessed and experienced as a Holocaust survivor.

His warmth and love for his fellow man is evident throughout his memoir. Morris provides a vivid look at pre-war Poland and the lives that were stolen from our families. And, much as he greets his guests with genuine warmth and affection today, he treats each character in his book with similar respect and reverence.

His memory is outstanding as he remembers the many personalities and every day people of his Warsaw youth, and later in the death camps. His descriptions are detailed and he suceeds in bringing out the special qualities of each character. This is so important because more often than not, the people he describes with such affection will soon be dead at the hands of the Nazis. Much of Holocaust literature refers to the millions who were massacred. Morris didn't know the millions but he pays beautiful homage to the hundreds who crossed his path.

From homage to carnage, Morris's story takes us into the Nazi occupation and his incarceration in several death camps. Similar to his skills in painting a picture of his pre-war youth, he is equally and shockingly vivid in his memories of the camps. The brutality, anguish, and sheer inhumanity he witnessed is brought to life as only a man of his artistic talents can do.

And in the midst of the brutality, there is the friendships, the shared moments, and the appreciation for his fellow prisoners that is necessary for the reader to grasp onto so that he or she may continue with the chilling chronicle of Morris' survival.

A Brush With Death has warmth, beauty and brutality. It is one of the many stories of the Holocaust experience, and one which I am confident will provide a unique perspective to the most horrific period in recorded history.

Graphic, Stirring Depiction of Holocaust
As a fellow survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto and the Budzyn concentration camp, I can attest the accuracy of the author's harrowing descriptions of his experiences.

I am amazed at the author's ability to recall so many details. He writes from the heart, without artifice. His spare drawings provide haunting illustrations of what words can't always describe on their own.

Read this book. You will be moved.

IF THE AUTHOR IS DESMOND MORRIS, ITS A GREAT BOOK!
I have almost all books by Desmond Morris in regard to cats and dogs in my library and would not part with any of them. This one is no exception and makes a great coffee table book. The information found here is just as implied - info on a vast variety of cats from around the world. There are many other similar books available but few as complete. For those contemplating the purchase of a cat and not sure what type is right for you, this book is a terrific place to start. The book provides a history of various breeds of cats and the characteristics of each individual breed. Any lover of the feline world will not want to miss this beautiful, informative book.

Cat Breeds of the World : A Complete Illustrated Encyclopedi
A wonderful and resourseful book with absolutely glorious pictures. Desmond Morris has given the most detailed history of our rare breed, the Turkish Van cat, that I have found anywhere. A joy to curl up with.

The Caves That Time Forgot (The Seven Sleepers, No 4)
Published in Paperback by Moody Press (May, 1995)

great book! i don't care how unoriginal that sentence is.
this book is fantastic! it is sooo good. i mean, i read it like three times, (maybe more), and i'm not sick of it yet. my friend got this book mega-cheap at a garage sale and the only reason she bought it was caus it was accidently in the bag she put books in. i'm really sorry (and mad) she didn't get more. There were a ton of em'! okay, i'll tell you what it is about. see, the seven sleepers were sent to this island to help a bunch of really uncivilized people. they talk to the captain of the boat who brings them there and he shuts up and refuses to talk about it. finally they get the cook or someone to talk about it. he starts babbling bout these monsters on the island. later, the seven sleepers find out the "monsters" were dinosaurs. They also meet 2 tribes that war against each other. They found out about only one at first. or rather, the tribe found them. they were saved from having their hearts cut out by the chief's daughter. they taught the tribe all these stuff, like making bread and weapons and how to help other people. later, they helped make peace between the two tribes. I'm not telling how, that's giving away too much. i've already said too much. all i'm gonna say is the ending is pretty funny, especially to me. darn, i'm really bad at making endings so i guess i'll make an unoriginal ent to match with an unoriginal beggining. You know, great book! the end

MOST EXCELLENT CHRISTIAN SCI FI!!!
I can't rave about this series highly enough!! It is an extraordinary sci fi for Christians. Every book in the series is about 7 pre-teens who are on missions for and with Jesus. I've read all 10 in the series to my 7 & 8 year old boys. MEGA HIT!! Do you know other Christian sci fi books?

Chariots in the Smoke (Appomattox Saga #09)
Published in Paperback by Tyndale House Pub (February, 1997)
Author: Gilbert Morris
Average review score:

Enchanting and Educational
Chariots in the Smoke was an enchanting and educational book. It helps readers learn about the Chatanooga and Chickamauga battles but also keeps readers excited and anxious because of the romantic twists. I loved this book and think that Gilbert Morris has a superior way of capturing romance and telling it to the best degree. This book is perfect for all ages above 12.

Continueing saga of the Rocklin family
THis is the best entry to the Appomatox saga. If only Gilbert would write more books faster.

Charleston Illustrated Map
Published in Map by Morris+Bailey (06 March, 2000)
Authors: John George Morris and Heather Bailey
Average review score:

Great Map and Documentation
I have lived here for 9 years and this is the first map that does this wonderful city justice (besides the historical maps!). While it does not look like the 'old Charleston' maps of the Civil War, it has everything any tourist, resident, or map enthusiast must have. If your visiting Charleston, bring it along as a up-to-date guide to the city. If your a resident, this is actually a contemporary map that is perfect for a wall in your office or home. If your a map enthusiest, take notes on what Morris and Bailey have done to put the Holy City on the map!

A useful work of art for anyone who loves Charleston
Having grown up in Charleston, I looked at this map first to find the details of the places I knew best. It was almost shocking to find the dormer window of my old bedroom in the upstairs half of the house we rented on South Battery St. Details like this make this map amazing, and the map is filled with them. Hidden gardens, oddly shaped roofs, tiny carriage houses are all revealed in stunning detail. For anyone who loves Charleston, this map is a work that reveals her beauty through the details. For anyone just getting to know the city, it will give you insight to hidden treasures that even locals would normally miss. The overall presentation of the map is first rate. Even the package (a clever heavy paper sleeve that opens like a book) is thoughtfully designed and beautifully executed. I strongly recommend this map to anyone who is visiting Charleston, or to anyone who lives there and loves the city.

Will keep you in anticipation of what's next
This is an excellent book of short stories depicting the experiences of women and men. Colorful blues certainly makes us take stock of some of our own lives and see the mistakes, choices, and experiences that we've lived. The characters are certainly colorful each in their own way. Each short story leaves you wanting to read the next story to see what color it's about and how it ends. I highly recommend the reading of this colorful book.
